Street Dancer 3D was expected to be about dancing and dealing with competition. The movie, however, tried to add in another, unrelated message about illegal immigrants, and it didn't not mix well with the template plot that was already set up, which resulted in a thin storyline throughout the movie.
The beginning starts out with confusion. The story started, but doesn't let you know that it started until the problem gets to a certain point. Along with this, songs were randomly placed here and there, and although the dances were good, the songs at the beginning did not have much to add to the story.
As the movie progressed, you could notice the attempt of adding in a good message, but it didn't really fit with how the story already was. The main story was the rivalry between the two dance groups, and all of a sudden, this group of illegal immigrants is thrown into the story, which changes both the groups. The main problem ends up shifting, quite forcefully, from dance to immigration.
Besides this, some characters are there for the celebrity-perspective of the movie, and they don't add to the actual "story" of the movie. One of these characters was Prabhu Deva. He showed up in the middle, introduced the second problem, danced to A R Rahman's Muqabla, showed his skills, then stood on the sidelines for basically the rest of the movie. While his dance moves were great, he didn't show much of his acting in the movie, besides for a comedy scene, where Varun and Shraddha mainly steal the show.
This movie could have totally been better.
