My favorite scenes from Soorarai Pottru

Among the many movies to release on OTT platforms this year, Soorarai Pottru was one of the better/best movies that released. Obviously, everyone would prefer to have seen it on the big screen, but even a small screen works just as well when you're watching an enjoyable movie.

This is the movie Suriya needed, after a series of flops– NGK, which I haven't seen yet, and Kaappaan, which I thought was boring and unoriginal. As for Aparna Balamurali, she acted so well that Wikipedia included Soorarai Pottru in her notable performances, which before only included Maheshinte Prathikaram and Sunday Holiday (Both of these movies are really good btw.) This movie had it's problems though, like the pace, and some things just didn't work for me (like that cost/caste mass dialogue. When was caste even discussed in the movie?), but as a whole, it was easy to overlook those and enjoy the movie. (It was much better than Miss India, Mookuthi Amman, and the other Diwali releases.)

So, for this movie, instead of writing a short review, I decided that I'm gonna share my favorite parts of the movie.

Here it is:

1. When Bommi (Aparna Balamurali) and Maara (Suriya) first meet (from when she arrives to when she leaves)– So basically, most of the first half an hour of the movie.

2. When Maara explains to the VC that an Udupi hotel can be (and is) better than a five star hotel.

3. The conversation that happens when Maara goes to Bommi's bakery hoping that they both can get married.

4. The small part in the Kaattu Paayale song when Maara and Bommi are putting the garlands on each other during their marriage. They both try to put them on each other at the same time, but finally, she puts it on him first instead of the usual guy-goes-first thing.

5. When Maara runs to his bike because of an emergency, but turns around realizing that he forgot his wife, but she's telling him that he can go and that she'll take an auto.

6. The scene where Bommi says, "Not just fifteen thousand, I'll give twenty thousand. You always talk of doing great things, so act accordingly. Why this false pride with me? Why is it so hard to ask your wife for help?"

Right here, she just took that pride or ego (whatever it's called) that Maara had and threw it right out the window. (Well, not exactly, but whatever.)

Basically, I really liked Bommi's character in the movie. You don't see many female characters written this way nowadays, but it's these kinds of characters that stand out and are remembered.
